Yum Yum!

Swedish furniture chain IKEA has withdrawn its Köttbullar meatballs from stores in 24 countries in the last two days, adding Germany and others to that list on Tuesday after Czech food inspectors found horse DNA in frozen meatballs at a branch in Brno on Monday.

A company spokeswoman confirmed that the meatballs had been taken off the shelves in Germany on Tuesday. It remains unclear whether horsemeat was served to customers of stores in the country, though.

“The IKEA Group has taken an extra-precautionary measure by issuing a temporary sales stop of meatballs in parts of Europe,” the company said in a statement on Monday. “The sales stop concerns meatballs manufactured by one supplier in Sweden and applies to all European countries except for Norway, Russia and a limited number of products in Switzerland and Poland.”

“We take seriously the test result from the Czech Republic authorities, indicating presence of horse meat in one batch of our meatballs.”

The company said it had initiated DNA analyses of all meat products in the range two weeks ago and that twelve tested samples of different batches of meatballs showed no traces of horsemeat. “We expect the test results at the end of the week to confirm that there are no indications of horsemeat in the meatballs.”

The meatballs in question were supplied by Gunnar Dafgård AB, a family-run frozen food business in southwestern Sweden. The company could not immediately be reached for comment.

Who goes to Ikea for the meatballs anyway? Find out who they are and incarcerate them for being stupid in public.

Second only to China for the level of cheap crap, Ikea supplies dormitories with starter furniture, come to think of it, that is all they have. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Here @ DWF we do not use horsey’s in any of our fine tasty treats, Martha is very particular about her ingredients consequently we have the finest goodies anywhere, anyone that has sampled some will agree, Martha rules!

Better dig in before the interlopers arrive. Dig in!

That’s kind of how my famous Swedish Meatballs look except mine are home made. No horse meat in ‘em. (that I know of)

IKEA is a nightmare, IMO. I went to one of their stores one time — that was one time too many. Laid out in the “you-can’t-get-there-from-here” maze. Don’t try to herd me!

Horsey balls at IKEA? Who knew? Horse d’oeuvres? Next they’ll be putting wood in their furniture, eh?

NOTE FROM THE GRAPH: Spending Savings from Superlative CPI with protections for vulnerable $130 (in billions)

Oh, isn’t that great — I wonder how they define “vulnerable”…

As I mentioned yesterday, Kabuki Theater. .. Obama is, once again, playing the nice guy role, as he prepares to screw the masses. Lucky for him that everyone is yammering about the sequester “damage” because his plan (which is still on the table, as noted in the link above) would be very, very unpopular if the SHEEPLE understood what’s going on here.

Look at the chart — two of the biggest single elements in O’s plan are large cuts in Social Security/Veteran benefits and a substantial middle class tax increase. Obama suggested using the chained-CPI, which is a less accurate measure of inflation than the gov’t currently uses, so over time the cumulative reduction to SS would add up to a substantial cut for many beneficiaries.

But I liked horse meat the one time I know it was served: steak tartar complete with raw egg. Yum!

    • Susan Anderson says:

thanks David. I was tempted to say something alone those lines.

Not sure why horses have to be singled out. Because they have asses?

With talk of immigration reform, SPLC takes a look at the guest worker program — worth a read, IMO. Be sure to peruse the sections, screen right.

I think the main beef is the mislabeling, not that it’s horse meat. Horse meat is cheaper than beef, that’s undoubtedly an incentive for unsavory characters to pass it off as Bessie the Cow.

Eating horse meat is relatively common on the Continent. I read today that the EU’s agriculture directorate estimates that Europeans consume 80,000 metric tons of horse meat annually.

About 1/3 is imported from outside the bloc.

    We need THIS stuff.

    Simple. Just avoid red meat.
