Sunny Hightower Sunday

Only a few months ago, President Barack Obama announced the good news that our combat role in Afghanistan — the longest war in U.S. history — would finally end by New Year’s Day.

Put away that champagne.

A flock of screeching war hawks brought heavy political pressure on Obama to reverse himself. So our troops will stay in that war-ravaged, corrupt, bankrupted, ethnically divided country for at least another year or two.

Amazingly, the hawks argued that Obama shouldn’t “rush” the timeline for training Afghan security forces to defend their own country.

Rush? Hello: IT’S BEEN 13 YEARS!

Fitting article for this day, “a day that would live in infamy”, now that we are the infamous.

Over 50 minutes of stick walking. Watched a flock of about 2 dozen birds wheeling around and around in the cloudy sky. Don’t understand what that display of flapping is about…

Tostadas again today, and that’s about all I did, oh and the dishes. Other than walking Q this morning and playing chase in the house with him. Wish I were 40 again so I could run around with him longer than I do. He loves to steal a sock and make me chase him to get it. He leaps on the bed and lays low, I run in and sneak around the TV at the foot of the bed, poke my head to the left, to the right, over the top. He loves it. Me, too.

For the record, he wasn’t running with a sock. We have bear slippers, big fuzzy things shaped like a bear. I got them out the other day and shuffled into the living room in them, he jumped a foot. Then he wrestled one off of me and the chase was on. That’s his new favorite toy right now.

OK deadsville here so I will go elsewhere for my entertainment, Mexican people across the road have their native music cranked up loud enough to be heard clearly here, rudeness? no problem, I’m moving, someone else’s issue. I was brought up to be considerate of others, apparently I am in a minority.

Told you this before. Park some 8″ speakers outdoors, powered by several hundred watts of tube amp glory, and crank up Pink Floyd’s ‘Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict’.

      You win.
