Good morning, guys. The day after Christmas and I haven’t had to do a thing yet. I have Quincy so fed him, walked him, played with him and sat on the couch, reading The Week. I love that magazine. Several years ago Micki surprised me with a gift subscription to it and I’ve kept it up. It’s replaced the Newsweek I received for probably 40 years.

Yesterday Bob turned on “Closed Caption” on the TV because my daughter-in-law’s brother told Bob he finds it funny. So, they looked at it. After everyone went home and Bob turned on the TV the CC was running and he went to the menu and turned them off. Except they wouldn’t go away. It said it was off, yet there they were. He fought with that for quite awhile, I had to dig out the Sony book for him, he tried setting the TV back to default, didn’t work. Turned the TV off, nope. This morning we unplugged it for an hour, nope. So, I googled the problem.

Duh. The first three answers said it was the satellite box, so Bob went to THAT remote, found the Closed Caption selection and just like that, CC was gone. THANK goodness~! We were actually worried we’d have to run out and buy a new TV, lol. Or put up with words running on the screen forever.

Bright sunlight all morning, it’s blinding. Nothing but gray skies for what seems like weeks. My solar light will be happy tonight.

I didn’t get anything to bring back to the store, skimpy in the gift dept. but I really don’t need more stuff anyway. I just have to settle for good times, good food with good friends.

So far 20 minutes of stick walking today. That’s 115+20=135 minutes for the week so far. Need to do 15 more minutes, at least.

Got up to 50° this afternoon. And there was a “red sky at night….” at dusk, no rain tomorrow.

Feels to weird to suddenly have nothing critical that has to get done. I’ll get back into my normal mode on Monday. Right now, just putzing, doing anything I feel like doing. I’m on break.

Cruised Best Buy saw 4K TeeVees, a phenomenal picture, unless someone on has a bad complexion, then it’s TMI!, $350 for a nice desktop 1 TB hard drive, 4GB RAM, monitors sold separately. The returns line was out the door.

I am so tempted. I bought a Sony 48″ last week. Not what I wanted, but it was in stock, and I needed a flat screen right there and now.

Already decided I’m going to buy either the Sony UHD or Samsung curved screen 48″, which is what I really wanted.

No one is broadcasting 4K but hi def does not look too bad either, 4K and curved screens are high priced gimmicks, along with 3D is a gimmick intended to liberate you from your money. Your Sony will work fine for a long time until the gimmicks’ dust settles. I have a 50″ Samsung for the past 3 years, Plasma power sucker, decent picture.
Most broadcast stuff is 780p anyway, movies are 1080p making a 4K overkill.

I need to check out the benefit if UHD upscaling.

3-d is definitely a gimmick, a modern day quadrasound.

That said, I don’t prefer the picture of the new Sony as opposed to my 4 year old Samsung, which I murdered. It had a crisper picture.

So we were talking about how influential the ’60’s were on my home away from home, TBLA, and I posted this:Yeah, the ’60’s were a a time of social unheaval not seen since the civil war. It was a seismic shift between generations. It was a statement about who really governs the country, those in charge or we the people. It was a time of much insanity and much foolishness. It was the birth of ’we’re not going to take it’, which, ironically, was postulated by a Brit, though it could be argued that such as Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan led the way.

The one lesson I take well from the ’60’s is that it is incumbent on all of us to question authority. That doesn’t have anything to do with being anti-authoritarian. Rather, it’s an important cornerstone of a free society

Of course, the ’70’s brought us disco, so there’s that.
