SPACE YEAST: On March 17th, during the strongest geomagnetic storm of the current solar cycle, Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched a Space Weather Buoy to measure the effect of the CME’s impact on cosmic rays in the stratosphere. Along with radiation detectors and other sensors, the payload carried some hitchhikers–brewer’s and baker’s yeast.
Meanwhile in the ionosphere…. The eclipse had a dramatic effect on the ionization of Earth’s upper atmosphere. Normally, during the day, solar UV radiation breaks apart atoms and molecules, creating a layer of ionized gas hundreds of kilometers above Earth’s surface. The Moon, however, blocked those UV rays. Subsequent changes to the ionization structure of atmosphere altered the propagation of radio waves in the eclipse zone.
Space Weather Buoy would be a great band name.

You must be desperate for entertainment, those bozos make me feel real queasy knowing a large amount of the brainwashed populous will vote for the money-grubbing idiots and one of the for-mentioned, assholes, might even get elected.

Yeah, no, not desperate for entertainment. Just enjoy the spectacle.
That being said, I hope I never turn into a model of cynicism like you 🙂

Den, the way I see it is everything is pretty hopeless so I try to enjoy the inevitable decline as spectacle. I can’t live long enough to see the ending to this story, so I have to take it all with a grain of salt. Never used to be like that, but I am now.

Cold today and tonight, went out anyway. I think it was 28°. Had to come back in for a hand-warming, then back out all warmed up.
I’m going to drive to Detroit all by myself Friday. I haven’t done that in a decade, if not more. My best friend is turning 75 and her daughter is giving a surprise party. Bob will stay home, too hard on him to go plus he’s antisocial. I’ll spend the night so I don’t have to drive back in the dark. The party doesn’t start until 6:30 p.m. I hate to be out after that time, but I’ve got to go.
Then I simply have to get home Saturday after the party by noon. My grandson’s birthday was March 22, they had a party, but they always bring him here for a grandma party. I have things to do, a cake to bake, can’t linger at my friends place.
So, lots on my plate for this week.
Oh, had two Margarita’s at a Red Lobster Saturday. They sucked. 😛
