A recently published report has revealed that the US invasion and occupation of Iraq was responsible for the deaths of approximately 1 million Iraqis, which is 5 percent of the total population of the country. The report also tallies hundreds of thousands of casualties in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Authors of the report, titled “Body Count: Casualty Figures After 10 Years of the ‘War on Terror,'” have told Truthout that other casualty reports, like the often-quoted Iraq Body Count (IBC), which has a high-end estimate at the time of this writing of 154,563, are far too low in their estimates, and that the real numbers reach “genocidal dimensions.”
Joachim Guilliard, the author of the Iraq portion of the study, told Truthout that the new study relied heavily on extrapolations from a previous study published in the prestigious Lancet medical journal, which put Iraq’s numbers at 655,000, but the study was published in 2006 and is now dramatically out of date.
“The numbers of Lancet, reaching genocidal dimensions, represent a massive indictment of the US administration,” Guilliard said. “Most Western media are not interested in it. The IBC numbers, however, are [seen as] acceptable. They are in line with the general picture of the war in Iraq according to which the Iraqis themselves are primarily responsible for most violence.”

I remember the Lancet estimate as to how many died because the revenge of the United States. The 655,000 was shocking enough, but the real number is way higher, even more shocking. We behaved like teenagers wanting revenge, not much has changed. It seems to be the nature of this country to want to extract revenge over every little thing. Hence capital punishment still festers here and the jails and prisons are packed with humanity. Revenge is a horrible attribute of a human being.

Went with Pete to Howell to a party store Pete discovered on one of his Red Cross blood drives, home made sandwiches so yummy that this is our second time driving out there. Fresh bakery bread, Boarshead meats and a grill. They smear the concoction in butter, put it on the grill and the finished product is beyond yummy! I had a beef one today, with blue cheese dressing, Swiss cheese, grilled onions and peppers and I probably forgot an ingredient. Mmmm.
Pete went to pick up Nicholas from school, then there is meeting with the teacher and they’ll come back here for awhile. If the rain hold off Pete is going to help me with some yard projects that require a saw.

Pete said if it wasn’t for his Red Cross job he would have NEVER stumbled on that party store, which is out in the country all alone, no city close at all. During the blood drive, for lunch he was going to go drive to Brighton, MI, or maybe downtown Howell, to find maybe a McDonalds. A local told him about the party store near the country church where the blood drive was, Pete wanted to blow it off. Like the last place to get a sandwich, a party store.
Except he struck gold that day! He’s been back there numerous times and now he’s taken us there twice! Being as it’s a party store, it has odd stuff for sale near the register and I came home with a new wren house. Been looking for a wren house on my travels to Home Depot and Lowe’s, no luck there but the one I got at the party store today is a beauty! It’s a cute cottage, home made, varnished wood, small rocks glued to the cottage halfway up, it’s almost too pretty to put outside. I’ll put it out there anyway.

No refecting person needs to be infomred that war is the rich man’s opportunity and the poor man’s calamity, tat it makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, and that no absurder mode of recounciling the two classes could be proposed
