Eclipse, Palm Tree, and Idiot Warning

Eclipse, Palm Tree, and Idiot Warning

This afternoon, in announcing her support for removing the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley asserted that killer Dylann Roof had “a sick and twisted view of the flag” which did not reflect “the people in our state who respect and in many ways revere it.” If the governor meant that very few of the flag’s supporters believe in mass murder, she is surely right. But on the question of whose view of the Confederate Flag is more twisted, she is almost certainly wrong.

Roof’s belief that black life had no purpose beyond subjugation is “sick and twisted” in the exact same manner as the beliefs of those who created the Confederate flag were “sick and twisted.” The Confederate flag is directly tied to the Confederate cause, and the Confederate cause was white supremacy. This claim is not the result of revisionism. It does not require reading between the lines. It is the plain meaning of the words of those who bore the Confederate flag across history. These words must never be forgotten. Over the next few months the word “heritage” will be repeatedly invoked. It would be derelict to not examine the exact contents of that heritage.

This examination should begin in South Carolina, the site of our present and past catastrophe. South Carolina was the first state to secede, two months after the election of Abraham Lincoln. It was in South Carolina that the Civil War began, when the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter.

Nothing but divisive that symbol of the Confederacy, too much anger and hate associated with it, time to put that flag in a museum and leave it there.

Abdominal pain has me heading off to the VA medical facility in Sacramento to get it checked out this AM, advice nurse said it might be appendicitis, yikes! We shall see.

I read about half that great article before I had to cry “uncle” and move on. I posted it in my news feed, maybe someone will actually read it. A couple of my political friends live for gigantic articles like that. I, however, have too little time, too much to do.

Geez, appendicitis? Well, whatever is wrong I hope it’s nothing super serious. We’ll be waiting to hear the diagnosis.

Didn’t rain yesterday and wasn’t too humid or hot, didn’t need to put the A/C on. We ran an errand in the new car, about time we drove it somewhere, to Jackson so I could go into Sears to see if I could find a new blouse, or two. Then we ate out! I had a rib eye steak, medium rare, garlic mashed potatoes, salad and a VERY tall draft beer. Mmmm. Bob had to bring his steak and potatoes home, he got too full from the shrimp appetizer, loaf of hot bread and the salad. His lungs are stretched out in his chest and press on his stomach his pulmonary doc told him one time, makes it hard to eat a lot at once.

So, tonight he gets a steak dinner and I don’t, lol. We rarely eat steak, I had my quota and that will do it for awhile. But the next time I want a steak, we’re going back there for the rib eye. It was just perfect! Soooo tender, hardly needed to chew.

Today’s weather, kind of overcast but still not hot and humid. Windows open in every room. I need to mow though, think I’ll leave it until tomorrow.

Talked to the nurse at my VA Clinic, she reviewed the pee-test results, white blood cells and cloudy indicating infection. Doofus Doctor said no problems with the test, continuing Amoxicillin despite his doofusness, I have near a full bottle here, they wrote a scrip for Motrin to cover the pain, not antibiotics, whoopee.
