I don’t think I’d ever be jealous of French teenagers if it weren’t for the Renault Twizy.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. That? You’re jealous because they get to drive THAT? And to be fair, the funky two-seater looks like the bastard child of a golf cart and a Countach. And with a 6.1 kilowatt-hour li-ion battery and just 13 horsepower, you’re going no more than 60 miles at a blistering 50 mph.
But because it’s so light—a mere 1,045 pounds—French authorities allow anyone over the age of 14 with a road safety certificate to get behind the wheel. Which makes being a teenager in France completely awesome, because they’re driving two years before their peers here in the states.
And now, the Twizy has landed in America, where Renault’s corporate sister, Nissan, has rechristened it the “New Mobility Concept,” a name so bleh I will ignore it and keep saying Twizy.
It’s not for sale, however. It’s being introduced by Scoot Networks, a San Francisco-based electric scooter sharing company. Scoot works like bike sharing programs: You sign up, pay a $19 monthly fee, and use an app to locate available scooters, which you can ride anywhere in the city for $2 per half hour, or $8 for the Twizy. Because the scooters top out at 30 mph, users don’t need a motorcycle license, but must complete a short online safety course.
Don’t like the no license aspect.

Read the gout info Den posted. Tart cherries. I’ve read a lot of good things about tart cherries over the years. I never see it for sale in the big stores, not that I’m looking for it thought.
Michigan is famous for it’s cherries, I’ve heard. None growing anywhere where we live though.

Darn it. Would have been nice to hear it was from Michigan, making all the stories about our cherries true.
Can’t wait to see if it helps. Can’t wait to hear how one drinks “tart” cherry juice. Mix it in something? Add sugar?

Absolutely no sugar added. I’ll try it straight and if too tart dilute with water.

Haven’t used the computer all day, went to the show with Jill and Brian to see the 11:00 a.m. showing of “The Martian.” I listened to the book back in January. They did a very good job making a movie out of that book. I enjoyed it.
Afterwards we went for sushi. Had things to do when I got home so am just now getting around to the internet.

BIG PHARMA does it to me again.
I have been having persistent ‘moving’ pains, quite debilitating.
I would wake up in the morning with both shoulders hurting so bad I could barely handle a coffee cup. The pain would fade through the day then sleep and wake up with huge hip area pain, the next day it was the elbow, then a knee. This was getting real annoying.
So I discontinued my Zocor for a week, the daily pains on waking persisted for a couple of days, then they let up. To confirm I took a Zocor last night.
Within 2 hours I had developed pain in my left groin muscle and my right wrist up my arm muscle.
I could hardly walk from the groin pain and had only one hand. Luckily I was at the RV and my bed. Just shifting in bed brought excruciating pain, almost dialed 911. I pictured the ambulance hauling me out of the RV in my mind. It was then I figured it had to be the Zocor as the co-incidence was too obvious so I decided to ride it out.
I tried to achieve the optimum position of less pain and for a while I did, then I had to Pee.
Aw fuck!
Carefully and very slowly I maneuvered out of the bed and inched my way to the Potty.
Thankfully I did not have my usual 4 beers instead was applying the Peroxide/Bourbon remedy or I would have needed more trips that night.
From that point on I managed to reach the position of minimal pain and sleep, waking every hour or two because I shifted while asleep into a pain position and woke up.
I slept to Noon, the pain subsiding slowly as the Zocor wore off.
I was able to function enough to make coffee and get dressed, some residual pain left, OMG I made it without an ambulance ride.
Zocor (Simvistatin) is the med I was taking to reduce my LDL Cholesterol while being treated for RA and OA at the same time for that pain.
Statins have a history of muscle pain as a side effect and they finally took a toll on me.
I have tried two others, Lipitor, made me stupid, and Crestor, made me crazy, I’m out of choices but less pain is a side effect of that which is a good thing for a change.

If your cholesterol is too high, try the grapefruit pectin powder. It worked for Bob, lowered his cholesterol number quite a bit. I take it in the morning every day but I haven’t had a blood test in ages so I don’t know what my cholesterol is now. I was always around 170 and my last test showed something like 195. That was because I started eating cheese every night. I cut out the cheese when I saw the 195, and that’s when I bought the grapefruit pectin.

Interesting. Two years now on Simvastatin (generic). Did have a period of about a month where I’d wake repeatedly with sharp left arm pain. I sleep on my right side, and I had dislocated my left elbow about 13 years ago, severing the main blood vessel and most of the tendons and ligaments running through it, so I attributed the pain to poor circulation.
Funny that I was just thing about this this morning. It went away on it’s own. Other than a couple of minor mid-night leg cramps, I’ve had no other symptoms. Will be aware of the possibilities Den raises, however.
Oh, and pickle juice is supposed to be good for cramps, and I eat a lot of Vlasic Zesty Dills. They are also good in potato salad, much better than freaking sweet pickles. I’m looking at you, Carol 🙂

Last night my left knee seemed funny, felt like something was clicking inside, felt a little odd, I stepped carefully. I’ve felt that lots of times. I went for my usual walk, knee was fine when I was done.
Sat at my computer for awhile and when I stood up, my left knee was awful! I could hardly walk! I mean, GEEZ! Just to get to the john was an ordeal, to the kitchen even worse. I thought about getting Bob’s cane, which is in the kitchen, but this is a small house, plenty of wall, door jams and furniture to hang onto.
I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and had to go to the john, hobbled in there, knee still screwed. I was supposed to go to the show with Jill, if my knee stayed like that, no way was I going. I’d have to walk super slow and hobble and no way would I allow myself to be pushed into the show in Bob’s wheelchair.
I got up at 8:40 and I couldn’t believe it. MY KNEE WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL! What the hey? Now, WHAT happened after I went back to bed that my knee normalized? Was something stuck in my knee and I somehow dislodged the whatever when I went back to bed? All I know is I’m VERY happy. I’m not read yet to start seeing doctors.
I would have to:
first see the family doc
he’d send me to Urgent Care for an X-ray
back to family doc so he could tell me what he saw in the X-ray
if bad, I’d be referred to a knee doctor.
Look at all the running around, all the money flying out the window.
Medicare is going up for us next year, our supplemental Blue Care Advantage went up and NO Social Security raise. 😦 They say there is no inflation. HA! The way Bob tracks groceries? He KNOWS what goes up, and EVERYthing has gone up, and goes up more every week.

Your knee pain co-incided with the uptake of meds? MSG will do it too; cheap Chinese food, it could be a drug side effect like mine was, it appears some long term meds dig in over time and cause issues, research yours.
It appears we have law enforcement choppers circling the area, their website sez; crazies in the road throwing things at cars, been there 30 minutes already.
Must be having trouble finding them crazies. Judging from the vast assortment available in the area daily, it would be difficult.
Ah, they left

My knee wasn’t swollen.
My blood pressure isn’t that high.
I don’t take any pharmaceuticals. Thus far I’m still drug-free. Jill thinks my knee is wearing out. Could be, I’ve been constantly Carolizing since I was 10, or younger. ALWAYS doing something, always on my feet, walking here and there. Probably wore my knees out. Pansy human being! I mean, sheesh! I thought we were suppose to exercise, keep moving. Well, maybe that’s why I’m not on any meds yet. So a knee goes, I shouldn’t complain.

I had a simply unintelligent conversation with my grocery store manager.
The meat shelf was always stoked with “Angus” steaks, my latest trip shows a diminished area which has been taken over by Harris Beef (stockyard) meat. I have driven past that place right off I-5 and you can smell it 5 miles before you get there.
Apparently he had been there and watched the cattle being processed and praise the place as “local” supplier. He watched them sort with Angus being separated out (the black ones) he says.
My last two steaks were tough what is which I would have expected from Stockyard Beef.
Folks there are a hundred different ways to sort cattle but just since it’s black means you can call it Angus. I’m switching to buffalo, good enough for the Native Americans…

If sharp pain in knee might be gout.

No, it has to do with something rubbing, like a tendon sliding over another tendon, I can feel the movement. It’s like an interior click. It’s not gout.
