In a first for the country, California’s Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) has issued plans to list glyphosate — the toxic active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide — as known to cause cancer.
According to a “notice of intent” issued last week by the Cal/EPA’s California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), the effort falls under California’s Proposition 65, in which the state is required to publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.
The same law, otherwise known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also requires that certain substances identified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) — the World Health Organization’s cancer arm — be listed as known to cause cancer.
What some of the evil corporations do in the pursuit of money, good to see they might be getting their comeuppance.

Errands today, had to go up to the big city. Not quite Lansing, Okemos. That’s the city before East Lansing where Michigan State University is located. Hit Home Depot for outdoor rugs for the back deck. The ones we had on there were stapled on. Pete removed them for us so we could have the deck cleaned and stained. The new rugs are free-standing, heavy things that don’t need to be stapled down. Also got some rechargeable AAAs for my outdoor solar lights. Got 4 of my dead ones going, looking better out there already.
Went to Gordon Foods for frozen green beans and sliced jalapeno peppers in a jar, the only two things I buy there. Then to one of those Farm & Fleet type places for bird seed for my feeders, then to the meat store for hamburger and Hunter’s Sausages.
I used the new car, parked where no one would ding a door. I’m getting used to driving the thing.
Bob not feeling well. 😦 Emphysema is very hard.
Pete’s came over for awhile when they picked Nicholas up from school. That was nice. While we’ve seen Pete quite a bit, we haven’t seen Sara & Nicholas.

Need to mow tomorrow! Hope I find the time, the place is a mess what with the growing grass and tons of leaves. Oh, and the moles have been having a field day. Need to run all the damn tunnels over with the tractor.
