While the Midwest and East Coast freezes their collective asses off, we here in CA bask in the 70’s.

@ the Hillside Cafe after 78 minutes stick walking. I went up to Banyans but they are still on winter hours; 40 minutes. So I came back down by the route past the rec center and then along Colorado Street to turn left into the back door; 38 minutes. I haven’t been along that route for over a year. Interesting new residence hall now completed.

Somehow that was enough stick walking to bring pain to my right foot.

Pete asked me to go to Nicholas’ school for his Valentine’s Day party. Pete was at work, Sara caught Nick’s illness and couldn’t go. I did the representing.

Nicholas was the only blond in the room, and he’s taller than most of the kids except for maybe a couple girls. There were about 10 grown-ups, a set of grandparents and parents who came to assist. I let the youth assist. I put in my time room mothering and now I’m old.

Hope I live long enough to see all those kids grow up and graduate. It will be interesting to see who ends up Nicholas’ friends. I wonder if his best friends will be the smarter kids. Nick is ahead of the kids, he can read, taught himself to read starting when he was 3. Nothing he can’t read now, of course. He does math in his head, like Bob. Nick’s biggest problem is socializing. He got a 1 in that on his report card. 😦 Too bad neighborhoods aren’t like they used to be when my kids were kids. We lived in a Detroit suburb, lots of kids on the block and my kids were always outside, playing. Nick didn’t have that, kids don’t go outside anymore, or else there weren’t any kids on his block in Lansing. Oh, well. He’ll thaw out as time goes by, I’m sure. He’s a smart boy.

Smart kids do not socialize well with ordinary kids, best to get him into an advanced program if available where others should be on more of an equal level and see what happens.
