WHEN A CANDIDATE for high office can’t respond to a simple question with an honest answer, attention should be paid. More often than not these days, that kind of behavior is just greeted with a shrug by the members of the elite media, but specific acts of evasion are worth studying. Because if something’s important enough for a candidate that they concoct a ludicrous non-response, there’s probably a sore point under there somewhere.
And when a candidate won’t directly answer the question, it’s also legitimate to speculate why that might be.
I’m not talking here about the positions on the issues that the candidates are taking, and whether they are logically consistent or wise. I’m not fact-checking. I’m just looking at evasive responses, and what they mean.
So here are some of the most glaring evasions of Thursday night’s Democratic debate in Brooklyn.

Good day today. Yesterday I whipped up my Spaghetti pie for Pete’s on Sunday, made my three salads and made tostada meat for today. We just finished eating a couple, mmmm.
Watched two episodes of “Game of Thrones” this morning with my coffee and almonds, did the wash while I was downstairs, then went outside to work. Got out the leaf rake and rakes the old stuff out of the hosta sides of the garage, and the flower bed behind the house. First mowing of the backyard, and I did some of the property next door. Got my pruners and cut out the volunteer lilacs coming up on this side of the little rock-like wall I built years ago, on each side of the opening to the cornfield.
I got rid of more baby lilacs by the property marker on the NW side of the lilac wall and sprayed the metal post yellow. There are some thick lilacs that need to be cut out, need a saw, but left it for Pete. He’s supposed to help me saw stuff with a power tool tomorrow.
Now I’m going to watch a movie with Bob. Can’t wait for my evening walk to see how nice my projects of today look.

VERY nice today, 77° the last time I looked. Maybe it got warmer than that, will see later. I worked in just a T-shirt, didn’t need my parka. Gorgeous day!!!

A long 39 minutes up to Banyans. 3 hawks circling and a magpie diving on this lovely day.
Going to have a Caesar salad.

A daily total of 105 minutes for after Banyans down past the 4 yearling bears out frolicking and wrestling to Grimes Way, thence west to the top of campus hill. Stopped using the sticks there and just walked down to the house.
Day 7: 330+45+105=480 minutes and my feet feel quite decent. Various uphill stretches are not as difficult as before. Altogether, feel quite good.

My right foot started acting up on the trip to the grocery store and then to Daggy Hall for the unusual School of Music concert there in Jones Theater. A graduate student in composition had his works performed; it went well.
Talked to him briefly afterwards, then Keadrin, who had performed in two of the pieces, then a violinist whose senior recital is tomorrow, then congratulated Abigail for her part in one work. Finally with a music professor, who had commissioned a piece that he played. I encouraged the idea that the School of Music should use Jones Theater more often for its superior acoustics, at least for the audience.
