Leafy Saturday

1a

Scientists in the US claim to have beaten nature at its own game. They have created a “bionic leaf” that exploits sunlight to create biomass − and they say their invention is now 10 times more effective than an oak or maple leaf.

Two separate laboratories at Harvard University have co-operated to devise, enhance and test a system that uses sunlight to split water molecules and feed the hydrogen to bacteria that then produce liquid fuels. The next task is to scale up the experiment to produce carbon neutral fuels to combat climate change.

“This is a true artificial photosynthesis system,” says Daniel Nocera, a leading researcher in renewable energy who is professor of energy at Harvard. “Before, people were using photosynthesis for water-splitting, but this is a true A-to-Z system, and we’ve gone well over the efficiency of photosynthesis in nature.”

Photosynthesis was perfected by the plant world over more than 3 billion years of evolution. It drives the entire living world and it is the primary source of all fossil fuels.

Missed a day or two here, oops. FYI, when I mess up coming here I usually didn’t have time for my two newspapers either.

We’re about to eat my Beef Enchiladas. I made a giant dish for Jill’s, we kept the small, overflow…it’s enough for us while Jill and Brian are still young and eat a lot more than we do.

It’s cooling off on the stove for 10 minutes before I cut into it. I hear the buzzer…..!

The heat and humidity that was at my friend’s farm in South Dakota has reached us and I finally gave in and turned the A/C on, about a half hour ago. Prior to that I dusted our bedroom, changed the bed, made salads, dealt with the pool ALL with my sweatband on. Feels good in here now. See ya later.

The enchiladas were VERY good. The new way I prepped the corn tortillas for the meat was the way to go from now on. Time-consuming, but it made them way more tasty, the corn flavor was more prominent.

One movie left to watch from my Tuesday $1.00 movie day at our video store. Brought home 4, all sucked and so will this last one, I’m sure.

Maybe I’ll jump in the car after and return the movies today even though they’re due tomorrow by 7:00 p.m.

I can taste those Enchiladas from here, yum!

Big car show downtown last night, walked back and forth a half mile, gorgeous cars, got groceries walked all over the rather large store, this AM my ankle is screaming in pain and tough to walk on as usual after a large amount of walking, no cartilage there anymore, predictable at least, laundry going 2/3 complete, watched a 4 hour motorcycle auction this AM to pass time while the machines beat my clothes into cleanliness.

Watched The Martian last week, Doc. Fine movie, not as great as the book, of course.

Did you even read the book, Doc? Or are you officially out to pasture?

Doc would like “The Martian.” Scientific stuff. I loved it AND the book and I’m no scientist. What I loved is seeing smart people. All I’m ever exposed to are idiots on the internet, the ones making stupid comments everywhere. Nice to see kids grow up, go to college and learn physics and math and EVERYthing cool like that. If only we plied NASA with the money we put into our war machine, if only.

We watched “The Boy,” staring Maggie from “The Walking Dead.” I liked it.

“Exposed” with Keanu Reeves, sucked. Blech.
“Daddy’s Home” with Will Farrell & Marky Mark,” eh. Got a few chuckles out of me, but could have lived w/o seeing it.

“Mockingjay 2,” hope it’s the last one which it looks like it was. Didn’t like it but two “Game of Thrones” actors were in it. Lady Brianne had a bit part as a lieutenant, and Queen Marjorie ran around with Katniss and gang and didn’t get killed.

TVD round trip took 48 minutes as usual. Hawks souring. Heard a quail Chicago.

Day 7: 272+48=320 minutes this week without trying hard and without any aches.
