Treacherous Tuesday

Chaos anyone?

By Chris Hedges

November 14, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “Truth Dig” – Widespread social unrest will ignite when Donald Trump’s base realizes it has been betrayed. I do not know when this will happen. But that it will happen is certain. Investments in the stocks of the war industry, internal security and the prison-industrial complex have skyrocketed since Trump won the presidency. There is a lot of money to be made from a militarized police state.

Our capitalist democracy ceased to function more than two decades ago. We underwent a corporate coup carried out by the Democratic and Republican parties. There are no institutions left that can authentically be called democratic. Trump and Hillary Clinton in a functioning democracy would have never been presidential nominees. The long and ruthless corporate assault on the working class, the legal system, electoral politics, the mass media, social services, the ecosystem, education and civil liberties in the name of neoliberalism has disemboweled the country. It has left the nation a decayed wreck. We celebrate ignorance. We have replaced political discourse, news, culture and intellectual inquiry with celebrity worship and spectacle.

Fascism, as historian Gaetano Salvemini pointed out, is about “giving up free institutions.” It is the product of a democracy that has ceased to function. The democratic form will remain, much as it did during the dictatorships in the later part of the Roman Empire, but the reality is despotism, or in our case, corporate despotism. The citizen does not genuinely participate in power.

“It is very similar to late Weimar Germany,” Noam Chomsky told me with uncanny insight when I spoke with him six years ago. “The parallels are striking. There was also tremendous disillusionment with the parliamentary system. The most striking fact about Weimar was not that the Nazis managed to destroy the Social Democrats and the Communists, but that the traditional parties, the Conservative and Liberal parties, were hated and disappeared. It left a vacuum which the Nazis very cleverly and intelligently managed to take over.

There is no room for truth anymore, only lies prevail, we have achieved George Orwells vision for a hideous hedonist society based on bullshit and lies. Now that the Bumpkins have spoken embracing the illogical and phony dream of prosperity, the slippery slope becomes slipperier moving us even more rapidly into the abyss of societal doom.

Have a nice day 🙂 the stupids remind us with empty faces and minds, have a nice day, just don’t get in the way.

Slept like the dead, 12 hours. Fixing the windows in this place yesterday before it rains tomorrow. Very poorly installed windows with big gaps around the perimeters where they are supposed to be mounted to solid material, all I could do was shoot in expanding foam and top it with heavy duty RV sealant, then replaced the trim board nails with screws, touch them up with paint. Now the water won’t seep into the walls like it was doing. I still have two small windows to do but the weather is getting colder and wetter, these old bones don’t like it that way.

Then there is the matter of the 400 billion (approx.) leaves from two large Oak trees….

    Raining like it meant it.

Put on a long sleeve sweater for the first time this season.

Raining here now, was nice earlier an as such allowed me to mulch up most of the 400 billion leaves, one more mulch on a nice day later on. The soil here is devoid of nutrients and leaf mulch is cheap and adds biologic matter.

Finally sorted out my SV’s headlight, lack-there-of, issue. Traced it down to an overheated wire connector, one more offense and I’ll solder it, grr, cheap-o connectors.
I don’t know if I mentioned it or not but Saturday night I rode 17 miles by Moonlight because of headlight failure, encountered one accident scene, rolled on. Deer are the greatest threat, they are all over, walking across roads with impunity and consequently falling victim to vehicular impact. Made it home obviously, not too rattled, riding motorcycles for 51 years, another adventure.
