AURORA ROCKET LAUNCH: On Feb. 22nd, shortly after midnight, bright green auroras erupted over Alaska’s Poker Flat Research Range. Researchers from Dartmouth College promptly launched a rocket into the glowing maelstrom. Photographer Marketa Murray of Fairbanks captured the event in a perfectly-timed self-portrait:
“We tuned into the Poker Flat Research Range radio for a heads-up that the rocket was about to launch,” explains Murray. “The picture shows both stages of the Black Brant IX sounding rocket burning for the ionosphere.”
The goal of the mission, named ISINGLASS (Ionospheric Structuring: In Situ and Groundbased Low Altitude Studies) is to decipher the mysterious shapes of the aurora borealis. Some auroras look like flames, others like swirls, ripples or curtains. The rocket was designed to scatter an array of sensors into the auroral zone, mapping the particles and fields underlying these forms.

I love Facebook. I’m very happy Den found Erling there, I’m so enjoying his company.
It’s uplifting to see that Norwegians, unlike Americans, pay attention to the world and know there are countries on earth other than Norway.
The Norwegians know more about Trump and our problems here than do half the American population. It’s astounding!
Erling posted the video below and a Norwegian troll showed up! He talked JUST like our trolls. “What’s Trump done that your Obama didn’t do in his time.” Erling pointed out, “He was not “my obama”!”
The troll brought up that story about Hillary giving uranium to Russia, etc. One of Erling’s Norwegian friends went off on the troll for many, MANY posts. She even put links in with truth from places like Politifact and the New York Times. It was so much fun! It went on for quite come time me clicking ‘like,’ ‘like,’ ‘like!’
So, yes, happy to have Erling as a FB friend. He had a birthday the other day. Shoot, I should have written down the date. Either 22nd, or 23rd.

Sunny day, but cold still. Maybe got up to 40° but it’s windy so feels a LOT colder.
Jill came over late this morning and we finally knocked out the first two episodes of the new season of “The Walking Dead.” Also one “Whose Line Is It Anyway.”
The Corvette’s battery keeps draining. Jill went to take it out of our garage Thursday and it wouldn’t start. Fortunately, Pete was here so he pushed it out of the garage and used our jumper cables to get it started. Jill then went to Howell to pick Brian’s son up from school.
Friday, Brian came to pick up Quincy and tried to start the car to show it to one of his son’s friends and the battery was dead again. He said it’s a new battery. So, it continues to park until Brian has time to look into the problem to try to ascertain why the battery is draining.

Academy Awards tonight, Bob is DVRing it. We’ll start watching it a half hour in so we can fast forward through the commercials. I LOVE the DVR! How did we ever live w/o such a thing?
I can’t wait to see what stars speak out against Trump, and I hope, against republicans. I know the New York Times has an ad they’ll be airing during the show, but I’ve already seen it on the internet. Good thing because w/ the DVR I would miss it.
Ole Trump is afraid to go to the White House Correspondents Dinner. I almost don’t blame him. He was treated like shit during one of the last ones when he was just a guest there, think what they’re going to do to him this year! Oh, they’ll still roast him, he just won’t be there in person.

Through 5 cm of snow on the trails just 45 minutes to the Tokyo Seoul. Quite a few birds observed; a flock of pigeons, I think, and then a gaggle of small ones.

Took the short way home through the university. Everything was fine until the B Street hill; the sidewalk was mostly unshoveled and so slick from the trodden upon snow. Daily total is 75 minutes.
