Saturday Reading

Idiot to hero 60 bombs later.

In every type of government, nothing unites people behind the leader more quickly, reflexively or reliably than war. Donald Trump now sees how true that is, as the same establishment leaders in U.S. politics and media who have spent months denouncing him as a mentally unstable and inept authoritarian and unprecedented threat to democracy are standing and applauding him as he launches bombs at Syrian government targets.

Trump, on Thursday night, ordered an attack that the Pentagon said included the launching of 59 Tomahawk missiles which “targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars.” The governor of Homs, the Syrian province where the attack occurred, said early this morning that the bombs killed seven civilians and wounded nine.

The Pentagon’s statement said the attack was “in retaliation for the regime of Bashar Assad using nerve agents to attack his own people.” Both Syria and Russia vehemently deny that the Syrian military used chemical weapons.

When asked about this yesterday by the Globe and Mail’s Joanna Slater, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged an investigation to determine what actually happened before any action was contemplated, citing what he called “continuing quesitons about who is responsible”.

Response to Mickster from yesterday’s post:

Simplest way I can state it:

HRC was such a poor choice as a candidate that we wound up with clown car instead.

THEY are all in the same car…some clowns, some more rational “appearing” but results are much the same.

      HRC = Hawkish Rotten Choice

Gawd has it really been 16 years since me you and Carol were so ideologically bent over W on ariannaonline?

It’s like we were babes in the woods, could not imagine our country spiraling further down the sinkhole, but here we are.

Politics is all about cycles, though; there’s always room for a return to rationality 🙂

Not 16 years, almost 13 years. And yes, Bush was a cardinal shock, first being handed the presidency, then getting elected the second time! I thought I was horrified back then, well HA!

Funny how 59 cruise missiles missed the runway altogether isn’t it.

Well since rich boy tipped off commie boy he was probably told to leave it alone.

Sunny today and warm enough for me to have rakes sticks into a pile in just my shirtsleeves. I have a couple windows open, too.

Made my Shrimp Pasts today, mmmm. Jill will be happy when she comes over tomorrow morning so we can watch the final three episodes of this season’s “Walking Dead.”

I swept the kitchen and bathroom floors, shook the rugs, vacuumed the rest of the house, raked the sticks, took the old stems out of the garden phlox garden, washed clothes, ran our movies into town to the video store, filled bird feeders and a little later I’ll be dying my hair. I’m way late on that.

I guess Bob and I are about to watch last night’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Think I’ll knock out my two newspapers first.

As for Trump news, or republican nonsense, I’m sick of all of it. The Gorsuch crap, the Syria crap, and especially those praising Trump for acting “presidential.” They’re all assholes.

An acquaintance posted a picture of the Trumps, the woman all decked out like a movie star, their surroundings golden, with the caption, “Share if you’re proud of our president and first lady.” Made me want to puke and it was all I could do to not make a comment. Have to let those kind of people just slide on by.

    Re: above

Seems I’ve known Carol and Mickster quite awhile now…never actually met them in person, but thanks to Den, we have remained good friends.

Swear that it would be good to buy one more motorcycle to take a cruise through the Sierra with ya, brother.
