At least 19 U.S. states have introduced bills that attack the right to protest since Donald Trump’s election as president, an “alarming and undemocratic” trend, U.N. human rights investigators said this week.

Maina Kiai and David Kaye, independent U.N. experts on freedom of peaceful assembly and expression respectively, are calling on lawmakers in the United States to stop the “alarming” trend of “undemocratic” anti-protest bills designed to criminalize or impede the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.

“The trend also threatens to jeopardize one of the United States’ constitutional pillars: free speech,” they said in a statement, calling for action to reverse such legislation.

“From the Black Lives Matter movement, to the environmental and Native American movements in opposition to the Dakota Access oil pipeline, and the Women’s Marches, individuals and organizations across society have mobilized in peaceful protests, as it is their right under international human rights law and US law,” Kiai and Kaye said.

Late last night Brandon and Cody stopped up to say goodbye. We chatted for quite some time and then Cody’s dad stopped up as well.

    Comment gone!

Up B Street and Spokane Street to the Tokyo Seoul in about 28 minutes and then on to the Community Garden for a running total of 37 minutes. While composing this Carl Hauser came by on his first bike trip of the year and we chatted a bit, mostly about the Big Rains.

While gathering to go an eagle of an unusual species for around here alighted in a nearby tree. A pair of crows immediately started mobbing the eagle and then a pair of even more fearless magpies joined in. The eagle flew over to a power pole arm but the 4 corvus kept at it so that the eagle flew away, still being chased by the 4 smaller birds.

Then 23 minutes to the Foundry since I found I was still hungry.

Then 28 minutes back home past a rabbit and then a flock of small black birds and a larger one with a white spot almost on the tail feathers. Of course up the College Hill Climb and Maple Street Extension. Feet ok.

      Today: 37+23+28=88 minutes.

Checking, the hawk was most likely a seriously out-of-place golden hawk, down here from the mountains. Never seen one before.

      Day 2: 168+88=256 minutes.

Went to get my eyes checked, same as last year, ocular pressure down, new specs on order. I brought my riding boots back to the store cuz they were falling apart, China product. Sad to find they don’t make low-cost boots in leather, they prefer to use the hide of the Nauga instead and shortened the warranty period from 5 to 1 year, 😦 so I will have to make another trip back for new ones sooner, within the year, free boots every year if the sides keep blowing out like they have been.

Just saw Jim’s post, about using a live trap for some mice in his house. Wrote it over there, but I’ll paste it here.

Just saw where you said you were going to use live traps. NOOOOO!!!!! We watched a movie about a serial killer, it started off with the guy setting a live trap that caught a cat. Fade out, when it faded back later, the cat had starved to death. A horrible death! I see the cover of that movie every time I’m in the Ts at our video store and I cringe.
