If humans go on burning fossil fuels, then California might, after all, remain the Golden State. It will get warmer. But, against all predictions, it might also get wetter.
A new study suggests that by the century’s end, Californians could see 12% more rain than they experienced in the last 20 years of the 20th century.
This is not the standard forecast. Almost all other climate models have warned that California – still recovering from a calamitous and sustained drought – could, like the whole of the US Southwest, become both hotter and drier and far more at risk of wildfire.
But that is not how two researchers see it. They report in the journal Nature Communications that although, under the notorious “business-as-usual” scenario, in which people go on filling cars with petrol and generating electricity by burning coal, the most southern tip of the state would indeed continue to parch, rain in northern California could increase by 14.1% and central California by 15.2%.

From yesterday’s thread…regarding Chuck Schumer’s op/ed drivel in TNYT, he writes:

Oy! Even in Schumer’s “better deal” thin gruel, he attempts to let himself and all the other non-effectual Democrats in Congress off the hook with the caveat “if enacted.” The Dems haven’t been doing the heavy lifting for the masses for decades — and Schumer is a prime example of that. They don’t give a s**t about “enacting” much of anything that improves the daily lives of the 99%.
Enough of your false promises! Schumer! Take notice! Things *MAY* improve when you get the hell out of Congress. You’ve been there for decades! YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!
And, how dare you usurp the success of FDR’s New Deal and attempt to dupe us with your phony-baloney “better deal.”

Had to summon Bob’s nurse today. Yesterday he was slightly confused, today he was confused a lot, it was awful. Jill came over, Pete called, we all finally agreed to call his nurse and she sped right out here.
He suddenly can’t operate the TV remote, couldn’t remember to take his morning meds, and when I discovered that he forgot HOW to take them: swallowing pills, I coached him and he got them down. I gave him a tiny amount of macaroni salad and left him in the LR, when I went back out there he was trying to spear the elbow noodles but on the empty side of the bowl. I had to hand feed him.
We’re hoping this abates. He’s finally in bed, hope he sleeps for awhile. He usually lays down 30 times a day but didn’t all day until around 6:45. I’m afraid he’s getting near the end unless tomorrow the confusion lets up. I parked his walker and am wheeling him around today in the wheelchair.
I hope tomorrow is a better day for him, for both of us. *sniff*

Aw that’s too bad, it might be the meds, but then you might want to get him to a hospital where they can investigate more thoroughly or have a doctor give him a visit, loss of hand eye co-ordination is a brain issue not to be messed with.

As some of you may know, I’m a believer in good hospice programs. Hospice nurses, especially in the not-for-profit programs, are true, dedicated servers.
I’m so sorry to hear your news, Carol, and no matter how long one has been living with his/her terminal illness, when the last days dwindle it’s always hard. Not that anyone asked, but when Bob (and you) opted for hospice, the “usual deal” is that one does not go “bopping” off to the doctor, ER, hospital, etc. One has chosen to forego further “treatments” that are intended to prolong life, but actually prolong the dying process when a patient is at end-stage. But, hospice is fabulous with keeping patients comfortable and as free of pain and anxiety as possible. But, sometimes, it’s inevitable…but quickly addressed.
I am so grateful that Bill had hospice…it “saved the rest of his life,” so that he could have a good death.
You and Bob are in my thoughts and in my heart. Jill and Pete…and your family too.
I hope you have a better day too.

Just 23 minutes to the Tokyo Seoul today as the short cut is open again now that all the construction fencing is gone. Before leaving home I thought I heard a flycatcher chick.
