Tectonic Tuesday

Mam Tor, in the High Peak of Derbyshire near Castleton, by Wayne Brittle.

The Geological Society of London has announced the 12 winners of its photography competition. The chosen images represent the dynamic processes which have shaped the UK and Ireland over its tectonic history, from ancient volcanic activity to ice age glaciers. The pictures will feature in a free exhibition at the Geological Society to mark Earth Science Week, 7-15 October.

I figured some visual distraction was needed, this fits the bill. Den

I was awakened this morning by a phone call from my PDX daughter, asking me if I’m still planning to drive to California…she’s concerned about the current raging fires in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties.

    We’ll see…

Regarding Dr. B’s list: I already have the lion’s share of suggested items…not the sleeping bag.

There are 17 fires burning up thousands of acres and thousands of homes and businesses, the smoke is causing hazardous breathing, so some sort of respirator or really good filter mask is a must have if one would wander down here right now. Everything you can imagine burned, chemicals, plastics, paint and more. Might want to wait a couple weeks to a month for it to be handled here and put out these fires.

I finally got to go to Meijer’s for groceries, Pete came to stay with Bob. I bought a strawberry/rhubarb pie from their bakery. For Bob, of course. 🙂 I tried a small piece, OMG!!! It was wonderful. No more frozen Marie Calendar pies for us.

Stick walked around until the start of the jazz composition concert. There I met Kirill and at the intermission Greg Y. Chatted with Greg but came home at the intermission as I am not that big on jazz and my right foot was acting up again. So a daily total of 45 minutes.

      Day 3: 179+45=224 minutes.

I got so excited about Micki’s trip to California that I posted my reply on yesterday’s thread. Will paste it here.

Audio books! A must. With them, you’ll be there in no time.

It’s weird you said you were going to visit Britton. When I woke up this morning, for some strange reason I was thinking about your kids, trying to remember their names. Got your oldest right away, but only got as far as your second starting with the letter B. I got it, eventually. I started out remember the story you told me of how she got her name. I think you were in NYC, exiting a building? Went through B names in my head, lol.

Can’t believe you’re going to drive all that way. I wouldn’t drive to Detroit if someone paid me and that’s only 80 minutes away.
