Seedy Saturday

Back in September 2016, US agribusiness titan Monsanto and German chemical conglomerate Bayer agreed to a $66 billion merger, making way for a globe-spanning firm with huge shares of the world’s seed and pesticide markets. The deal remains unconsummated, still under scrutiny by antitrust authorities. Donald Trump signaled readiness to bless the deal before taking office, but his administration has been pretty silent about it since.

Enter Trump’s nemesis, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D.-Mass.). In a recent speech before the Open Markets Institute, Warren denounced rising levels of corporate consolidation—massive companies merging into vast market-dominating entities that invest a share of their profits in lobbying and financing campaigns, shaping the political system to their own ends.

At one point—snippet below—Warren turned her attention to one of the most consolidated sectors of the US economy: agribusiness. And she called on the Trump administration to nix Bayer-Monsanto. “If the Bayer-Monsanto merger is approved, one gigantic company would supply one-quarter of the entire world’s seeds and pesticides,” she noted. (Her math matches up pretty closely with my assessment).

SS put Bob’s SS into my saving’s account Wednesday and it’s $3 more than what Bob was getting.
Then there is this, my Blue Care Advantage bill rolled in and it went down $2.

I scored an extra $5 a month! After several months go by, I’ll be able to buy myself a pizza.

Pete sent me an article in about the American Rec Cross. Mobile Unit Assistants (M.U.A.s) is what Pete does for them. He loads up a truck with all the equipment needed and takes it to the blood drive site and sets it all up, labels the blood, packs up the truck again and takes it all back to base. He loves his job.

First off the ARC was tampered with when Bush was president and it’s been downhill every since. The article was about how the ARC is starting to make their M.U.A.s act a phlebotomist and stick the donors, AND they are making their nurses do the loading and unloading of the trucks. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SHIT? Their union keeps fighting it, but you know big business if the employee doesn’t do what they’re told they’ll just get rid of you. Seems the goal is to get rid of M.U.A.s. *sigh*

It’s not working out too well. The truck drivers don’t like sticking people, they are truck drivers, they didn’t sign up to be nurses. And the nurses didn’t go to nursing school just to load and unload trucks. They don’t hire as many nurses as they used to. They’ll hire someone and train them for 10 weeks to be a phlebotomist so they don’t have to pay a nurse. The whole article was unbelievable but fits right in with how nuts everything else in this country is now. Bonkers, we are.

I hope the ARC in Lansing doesn’t start that shit, and I hope Pete doesn’t lose his job. What in the hell would he do then? He’s going to be 50 in April.
