An alarming heatwave in the sunless winter Arctic is causing blizzards in Europe and forcing scientists to reconsider even their most pessimistic forecasts of climate change.
Although it could yet prove to be a freak event, the primary concern is that global warming is eroding the polar vortex, the powerful winds that once insulated the frozen north.
The north pole gets no sunlight until March, but an influx of warm air has pushed temperatures in Siberia up by as much as 35C above historical averages this month. Greenland has already experienced 61 hours above freezing in 2018 – more than three times as many hours as in any previous year.
Seasoned observers have described what is happening as “crazy,” “weird,” and “simply shocking”.
“This is an anomaly among anomalies. It is far enough outside the historical range that it is worrying – it is a suggestion that there are further surprises in store as we continue to poke the angry beast that is our climate,” said Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University. “The Arctic has always been regarded as a bellwether because of the vicious circle that amplify human-caused warming in that particular region. And it is sending out a clear warning.”
I cannot *$#@?!! believe what out state legislature did! Hubris is too mild!

No kidding! Stupid website!!!! The Bellingham Herald is an embarrassment! It seems to work at making itself irrelevant. That link was supposed to go to an article about the WA STATE LEGISLATURE EXEMPTING ITSELF FROM MUCH OF THE PUBLIC RECORDS LAW!!!
Dems and Repubs — the vote was cock-eyed unbalanced in favor of nondisclosure. Disgusting!
Maybe this link from the Spokane Spokesman-Review will work.

Major, whopper, snow headed my way, predicting FEET of the white stuff, Mondays’ snow is almost melted. As long as I can retain power to run things. If by chance you come here at noon and the day before post is still up you can bet I lost power. I have a full bottle of propane for my heater and 2 gallons of gas for my generator and plenty of beer, I won’t suffer much unless the roof caves in.

Any device to help scrape the roof?

Is the roof or your house really weak, maybe built out of weaker wood than we use here in Michigan? We’ve never had to clean our roof. I don’t know anyone who has, except people that live Up North.

No it’s not weak, quite strong. Doc asked me if I had a device to scrape the roof and I do, had it for years.

Another nice day, lots of sun, I saw boxelders out on the garage doors in the sun. I rounded up my boxelders out of the bay window, they are like herding cats, had to collect them one at a time. I put them outside and they flew away, or crawled around on the deck rail.
Now I’m told I did that too early, supposed to snow here? GET OUT! Gosh, I hope they burrow into the leaves, get next to the foundation if it gets too cold for them. But I figured if the outdoor ones had weathered the entire winter, certainly MY guys could weather a few nights here and there. Oh, well.
While I thought I had at most 6, I collected 12 of them. I bet I’ll still have a few showing up over the next several days.

Upstairs from Carson they’re talking 5′ or so of snow with gusty winds of well over 100 mph tomorrow on the peaks. Real weather.

Wandered down Maple Street then west a block to Kamiaken Street Extension, north along that way where I had never been, eventually back to Campus Street to see how old haunts have changed, then up to Linden Lane to stick walk on the western part where I have never been. Maybe now I have walked along every street here on the hill. So 47 minutes to the Hillside Cafe.
