Womens’ Saturday

As President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner faces mounting scrutiny about conflicts of interest regarding his family real estate business and his role in government, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is spearheading a congressional inquiry into half a billion dollars in loans that Kushner’s company received after he met with finance executives at the White House.

In a pair of letters first reported by Politico, four members of Congress—Warren, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), and Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.)—demand that the lenders, Apollo Global Management (pdf) and CitiBank (pdf), provide records and information about the loans to Kushner Companies, of which Jared Kushner remains a part-owner, no later than March 20.

Because of today’s Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day, one thing lead to another, and I was reminded that when I was a very young girl, it was said that Mount Rainier in Washington State was the tallest U.S. peak.

But because of improved technology, we now know that’s not accurate. Of course, we know Denali in Alaska is the highest point in the 50 states, but in the contiguous 48 states, here’s the list of the tallest mountains:

Mount Whitney in the Sierra Mountains of California rises 14,494 feet above sea level.
Mount Elbert in the Colorado Rocky Mountains reaches 14,433 feet tall.
Mount Massive, also in Colorado, rises 14,421 feet tall.
Mount Harvard of Colorado stands 14,420 feet tall.
Mount Rainier in Washington is 14,410 feet tall.
Mount Williamson in California stands 14,375 feet tall.
Blanca Peak in the Colorado Rocky Mountains stands 14,345 feet tall.
La Plata Peak in Colorado rises 14,336 feet tall.
Uncompaghre Peak in Colorado stands 14,309 feet.

Wow…not pretty close! The glacial buzz saw in action!

I liked that video, Trumpfully Dumb. Too bad we didn’t see that during the campaign, but it still fits. Lots of Trumpfully dumb people out there.

Went to the book signing then when we got to Jill’s Brian was home so the 3 of us went to the bar in Dansville and I had a hamburger and a beer and sweet potato fries.

Margaritas tomorrow. I’m quite the gad-about lately.

  6. §º¿º§ Carol says:

I didn’t do anything in the house today. When I got home around 3:30 I decided to leave my Saturday wash for Sunday morning and I’ve been sitting here. Made all my internet rounds, going down the basement now to watch a movie.

A slow side 49 minutes to the Birch & Barley. The South Fork is in spate still but low enough to leave a little island occupied by the Mallard pair; the drake was napping while the duck stood guard. All sun day.

    • David B. Benson says:

Slower going home with fullness to the point of stuffness and then College Hill Climb and Maple Street Extension to ascend. A Mallard drake on another little island in the South Fork but no duck to be seen; 106 minutes total.

      Day 7: 408+106=514 minutes.

  8. §º¿º§ Carol says:

Snow has gone down in depth and it has been melting away from trees and shrubs. I’ll be happy when it is ALL gone so I can find that perfect time to burn all the trash I’ve piled up this winter. I will be able to take the recycling down to Chelsea, too, as soon as the snow it gone.

The movies was just ok. The previews on another movie are what made me want to see it. I’ve got what looks like a good one that stars Maggie Smith. Seems she plays a homeless old lady. It’s called, “The Lady in the Van.” The previews made that one look good, too. I also have “Atomic Blond,” but I’ll save that one to watch with Pete.

I have to tell ya…today was ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY STUNNING in my little corner of the world!
