Hurry up to Bryan Hall for the chamber music concert followed by the brass concert. Then back to the Hillside Cafe in the drizzle. Very few people here, typical of Friday night.
Alice, Harrison Storm on bassoon and the pianist Garrett Snedeker opened with a movement from a Poulenc trio. Later Keadrin Dick outclassed her companion in a cello duet by Kummer. Mathew Riley was the other bassoonist in a trio by Cambini. All the bassoon players are strong now. Can’t say the same for the horn players.
Then to Kimbrough for the faculty concert, Quatuor pour la fin du temps, by Messiaen, written and first performed in Stalag VIII in the early 1940s. Very good student attendance.
Oh yes, talked with Elizabeth and then Dean, the new school director.
Trump announced Friday night that an air strike was ordered on Syria following an apparent Syrian chemical weapon attack last week.
Trump has said he will hold the Syrian government, as well as its Russian and Iranian allies, accountable for the suspected attack.
White House spokesman Raj Shah said Friday afternoon that Trump “is going to hold the Syrian government accountable. He’s also going to hold the Russians and the Iranians who are propping up this regime responsible.”
The strikes risk pulling the U.S. deeper into the complex, multi-sided war in Syria. Do we never learn? Strikes also raise the possibility of confrontation with Russia and Iran, both of which have military forces in Syria to support Assad.
Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the US, said “such actions will not be left without consequences” and said Moscow was being threatened. “Insulting the president of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible,” he added.
Might be a good idea for Anatoly Antonov to realize that Trump has insulted JUST ABOUT EVERYONE… 😦

Trump prays that God will watch over the US as he orders missiles lobbed at Syria. Bible thumpers can rejoice.
