Solar Hole Sunday

ANOTHER HOLE IN THE SUN’S ATMOSPHERE: A new hole is opening in the sun’s atmosphere, and it is spewing a stream of solar wind into space. This extreme ultraviolet image from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the opening, which stretches more than 600,000 km from top to bottom:

Researchers call this a “coronal hole”–a region where the sun’s magnetic field opens up and allows solar wind to escape. Why is the hole dark? Because much of the hot glowing gas that used to be there is gone.

Solar wind flowing from this hole is expected to reach Earth on April 20th. G1-class geomagnetic storms and high-latitude auroras are possible at that time. Sky watchers between 50o and 60o N latitude should also be alert for STEVE, which tends to appear in that latitude range during springtime geomagnetic storms.

    Cloudy all day here.

  2. David B. Benson says:

To Shopko in 53 minutes for a prescription refill but I forgot that the pharmacy closes early on Sundays. Anyway, was able to secure a UCB cord and a new AA tick-tock. At the Birch & Barley after 82 minutes.

    • David B. Benson says:

Home the shortest way makes 128 minutes to start the week. Took 40 minutes to cause the AA tick-tock to tick-tock as the first two AA cells were drained in the attempt to restart the old tick-tock; oh yes, a bit of that time for setting up to use the new UCB extension. But it doesn’t charge any better, as I had forlornly hoped.

We got hit with an ice storm, and it’s the middle of April! Jill and I had a lunch date with friends up in Okemos. We went anyway, left a little before noon. Roads were meh, on the way home they were fine, the slush had melted. Ate at the Olive Garden since Maru, the place we had our hearts set on, was closed due to the weather.

We left by 2:00 because Kevin owns an ambulance service and because of the weather he had to get to wherever it is he keeps his ambulances.

  4. °¿º Carol says:

Man, this winter just won’t leave. Everyone is more than ready to go outside to tend to our yards and gardens. I’m looking forward to mowing, grass is still brown and ugly. HURRY UP, SPRING!

  5. Den says:

Rained here tonite. Having trouble with another BIG PHARMA product, body aches, sniffles and continuing squirts (to a lesser degree), Losartan is the culprit this time, sure it lowers blood pressure but raises more unrelated issues than one really needs.

    • David B. Benson says:

I currently use AmLODIPine Besylate 2.5 mg for some blood pressure lowering and no side effects.

      • jimhitchcock says:

Same with me on the Amlodipine. Did find out by accident yesterday that Lisinopril could have been contributing to insomnia. Cut my dose in half a month ago and started taking it only in the morning, guess that helped.
