Melting Monday

This July 4, 2012 photo shows surface melt water rushing along the surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet through a supra-glacial stream channel.

In the high-stakes race against sea level rise, understanding what’s causing the Greenland Ice Sheet to melt is critical. The problem isn’t just rising temperatures: soot from ships, wildfires and distant power plants, as well as dust and a living carpet of microbes on the surface of the ice, are all speeding up the melting.

Right now, predictions for sea level rise range from about 1 to 10 feet by 2100—a wide difference for coastal communities trying to plan seawalls and other protective measures.

The more we understand about how pollutants affect the ice, the more accurate those projections will be. So, let’s take a look at what’s happening on the ice sheet now—and the risks ahead.

    80º F ….ohmigosh!

Is this going to work out for the Republicans’ electoral prospects in November?

I remember when Don Blankenship was put in the pokey for charges rising from the collapse of one of his coal mines, which killed 29 people.

Now, he has a good chance of winning the Republican nomination for Senate in West Virginia on May 8. He has no political experience — but experience doesn’t matter in the Trump era. (NASA guy, Pruitt, etc!!!)

Incredulous to me…but apparently Republican strategists think their candidates will win by parroting Trump. Time will tell…

…just checked Weather Underground for our predicted temp for today.

    67º F

    When I woke up this morning, it was 45º F — currently, it’s 49º F

    Bright, sunny, and beautiful!

    Another PENCE enters politics….

Greg Pence, older brother of Mike Pence, is making a run for House seat in Indiana.

He’s running as a Trump supporter…extolling business acumen…”success”….however, he filed for bankruptcy protection and was assessed $8.4 million in penalties by the State of Indiana for environmental damage — caused by leaking underground fuel storage tanks at his convenience stores.

    Losers are winning!

After making a home page link for DWF via Ghostery last, decided to test loading the site on the stock built in Android browser one more time. Immediately got a MalwareBytes phishing alert. Have disabled it. Thanks Den.

Typical 14 minutes to the Hillside Cafe. The pear shaped 1st year woman with a lovely voice, now in the audition chorus, is having dinner with a friend. Previously she ate alone so I am pleased for her.
