It was a Google Alert that notified me I was part of what was then the latest Republican conspiracy theory.
The message, in mid-January, pointed me to a column by Rep. Jim Jordan, a very conservative Republican from a very Republican district in Ohio, posted on the very conservative site Newsmax. Jordan, who was an assistant wrestling coach before entering politics, had drawn up a list of “18 top questions to be answered about Russia and the FBI.” I was Question No. 16.
In his introduction to this list, Jordan noted, “The American people deserve to know the extent of Russian interference into our free elections.” Yet for weeks, Jordan had been one of the leading Republicans decrying the investigation of the Trump-Russia scandal led by special counsel Robert Mueller. His 18 questions contained not one query about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s covert attack on the 2016 election, nor did they consider any of the multiple interactions between the Trump campaign and Russians.
Jordan’s main focus was a very different claim: that the FBI had secretly plotted to keep Donald Trump from winning. It was a manifestation of what has become the dominant line of attack as conservatives seek to torpedo the Trump-Russia investigation.

In other words, profits have gone up four times as much as wages, and the small increase workers did receive was more than eaten up by rising prices, which have also bored into their savings.”
Circa 1948. Ronnie was speaking for the Harry Truman presidential campaign.

Arguing that “high prices have not been caused by higher wages, but by bigger and bigger profits,” Reagan complained about the end of World War II–era price controls, ridiculed the notion that prices would be kept down through “the natural process of free competition,” and decried the fact that “labor has been handcuffed with the vicious Taft-Hartley law.”
Reagan complained that, under a Republican Congress,
“Social Security benefits have been snatched away from almost a million workers by the Gearhart bill. Fair employment practices, which had worked so well during war time, have been abandoned. Veterans’ pleas for low cost homes have been ignored, and many people are still living in made-over chicken coops and garages. Tax-reduction bills have been passed to benefit the higher-income brackets alone”.

Then he married Nancy Davis, the daughter of a rich and powerful man, who told Ronnie “I can make you rich. Become a Republican”.

Diane rolled out of here around 12:30. I went to town for gas for my tractor. Hooked up cart and collected my stick piles around the back and the left side of the drive and then I mowed. FIRST mowing. Not much to mow but the left side of the drive and the backyard look good.
I also washed the car when I was in the village and swept out the side of the garage the car parks on.
Pete coming over tomorrow, we’ll probably go to Lowe’s for things. I want some patio stones for a project and a particular shelf for the garage. Can’t wait to finish whipping my garage into shape.
Gorgeous day, I still have windows open. Not all of them though.
