Meteoric Sunday

THIS WEEKEND–THE LEONID METEOR SHOWER: Earth is entering a stream of debris from comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, source of the annual Leonid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Nov. 17th and 18thwith rates as high as 15 meteors per hour. The best time to look is during the dark hours before sunrise on Saturday and Sunday. Leonids are famous for fireballs–that is, exploding meteors brighter than Venus. An epic outburst of Leonid fireballs in 1998 cemented the shower’s repupation. This year’s fireball count is lower, but not zero. Hermann Koberger photographed one this morning over Fornach, Austria:

“After the fireball exploded, its smokey debris was photographically visible for 30 minutes,” says Koberger. “This sequence of 1 minute exposures shows the evolution of the smoke.”

I dislike rude political talk show hosts and in particular CBS’s Marge Brennan, she asks a question then when the respondent answers she interrupts halfway through with another question like she is not even listening to the answer to the first question she asked. Rude!

John Dickerson did a much better job IMHO

I’ve watched enough of MSNBC the past year and a half, or maybe it’s two years, to have figured out the hosts. Chris Mathews constantly interrupts his guests, and they know it. Some of them try to throw him off by continuing to finish their thought.

Ari Melber, who I started out liking a lot, has gone down a notch. He does his share of interrupting, too.

Chris Hayes is starting to annoy me like that, too, but it’s funny…Chris Mathews’ show is the one I tend to sit in the living room and watch, even though he interrupts.

Smoke abated here for the time being, the valley still inundated. I have been using my Moldex P100 mask whenever I enter the smoke zone, glad I still have a couple of those things, I did use them commuting for work in traffic due to all the harmful dust and diesel exhaust.

I mentioned a couple days ago that she was M.I.A. I thought maybe she was visiting her kids.

It must be a week now that we haven’t heard from her.

Den, that noise I heard outside the window in here, I wasn’t drinking beer. I haven’t been drinking beer at all now that I’m trapped in the house. No smoking anything either. I was fully alert, unfortunately.

Had a nice time at the party yesterday. And they had food, so I ate again, of course. AND they had beer and wine, I drank wine this time. Always nice to get out of here in my lonely life and talk to people. Always nice to come home, too.

Kjell drove up from Portland and we had a nice visit, walking to the Thai restaurant for linner, then back to my house. This all after leaf raking, which went very fast with Kjell doing most of the work. 🙂

He also fixed my left stick so I am almost back to normal stick walking now; 74 minutes.

Carol HOLY COW!!!!! Glad you and the deer didn’t end of as road kill! But, what a fright for you!

I was in California, near Mendocino…Albion, where my SFO daughter and SIL have a vacation home that they use as an Airbnb. Some smoke, but not like inland…and now in San Francisco!!!

Dr. B — isn’t today your birthday? If so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! If not, happy bday anyway! Kjell’s visit may have been a birthday marker??

My heart breaks for all those people.
