Authoritarians Are Assholes

Police and Batons

The Real National Emergency is Creeping Authoritarianism

President Donald Trump traveled to Pennsylvania on Monday to stand in front of Air Force One and speak to a fired-up crowd of supporters. Some of his time onstage was spent hammering 2020 election talking points, like immigration (“We don’t want people coming up here! Our country is full!”); the rest was spent rambling about whatever happened to cross his mind. The president is expected to officially launch his reelection campaign next month, for instance, and he’s been wondering about a new slogan. “Do we want Keep America Great or Make America Great Again?” he said before asking the audience to judge each option with applause. Keep America Great won. Trump agreed: “I like it because we’ll sell many, many more hats that way.”

Trump’s rallies are also where some of the president’s most dangerous impulses get fleshed out into the open, like earlier this month in Panama City Beach, Florida, when he joked about shooting migrants at the border. His appearance at the Williamsport Regional Airport on Monday was no exception, providing the latest, terrifying look into the president’s tendency toward authoritarianism, which is becoming less of a tendency and more of an full-throated embrace as he continues to bend the government to his will.

Trump is hell-bent on doing whatever it requires to make us lose our faith in what we see and believe. The authoritarian style relies on intimidation and fear. I think we have to be wary of over-reacting to his bombastic rhetoric…our government isn’t entirely broken. Yet.

He tests his ability to corrupt results of elections (I think it was in Florida & Arizona)…an authoritarian maneuver to make reality appear uncertain. His followers fall for it!

He asserts that his “reality” is the only legitimate one, and everything else is “fake.” We’re all aware that “wedge issues” are powerful to enticing a politician’s (or a political party’s) followers to toe the line, and remain loyal, no matter what!

Trump is authoritatively creating a new “wedge issue” — to villianize & dehumanize political opposition. Will he be successful? Time will tell. What are WE Americans really made of?

Republican Richard Luger (who died recently) was ousted by a Tea Party candidate…he is quoted as saying, “Whatever is won today through division, is usually lost tomorrow.”

Ya gotta wonder…is Trump truly insane?

Geez, the way he blew the meeting yesterday!

He’s got so much to hide, one wonders why did he put himself in the position (POTUS) where any SANE person would know he’d be under daily scrutiny…did he think that because be got away with so much throughout his entire corrupt, failed life, that being President wouldn’t be any different?

It’s like the criminal who ups his game, seeking a new thrill, reaching a new high…

Certifiably insane or not, we do have a POTUS with a criminal mind.

Oh, like that’s going to happen….

Pelosi urges Trump family or staff to stage ‘intervention for the good of the country’

Went up by a route unused this century to Wheatland Drive and Hillside to see the remains of yesterday’s fluff fire. Couldn’t spot it. Went by the Lutheran Church where I had attended 2 memorial services. Nice out.

    Day 5: 229+47=276 minutes.

    Remember Wesley Clark?

Well, I’ll be! Having worked with the Friends Committee on Nat’l Legislation for repeal of 2001 AUMF (Authorization for the Use of Military Force — a Constitutional travesty!!!!!), this is a BIG deal, to some of us.

Pelosi keeps needling him, tickles me to see that…I keep cheering her on. There was the “cover-up” that sent him into a normal fury, lol. There was the “intervention” suggestion. She told colleagues that he is “villainous.” She said his rejection of an infrastructure deal could be chalked up to “a lack of confidence on his part.”

She’s doing the press and us a favor by saying things out loud that the press never does. They sit out in front of that crazy man behind his podium, unable to thwart him. Well, someone has to do it and it’s Pelosi.
