Follow the Money

Confronted by activists during a fundraiser for the Florida Democratic Party over the weekend, DNC chairman Tom Perez insisted it would be impractical to make one of the dozen scheduled 2020 presidential primary debates solely about the global climate crisis and candidates’ proposed solutions.

“A lot of young people say we should have a single debate focused on climate change,” Perez told activists after delivering a speech at the gala. But, the DNC chairman added, “once you have one single issue debate, then every debate leads to become a single issue debate in order to address the concerns.”

“So these debates, and we will have issue areas in debates, including but not limited to climate,” Perez said, “but it’s just not practical for us to have one debate on democracy reform, one debate on voting.”

Um, let see, the whole World’s climate is at stake imperiling our existence but it is not important enough for one debate? Dump Perez!

    So, here’s a story…

Last evening about 6:30, I was eating my dinner, doors were opened because it was a warm-ish day.

A gunshot! Then another…then a third! Even though I haven’t heard many gun shots in my lifetime, I immediately knew, it wasn’t fireworks. I had a visceral reaction to the sound!

I looked out front…a B’ham Police Department vehicle was across the street. Oh, oh!

I didn’t venture outside at first. Then I saw our nextdoor neighbors, walk onto their driveway, to ask the officer what was going on.

A tree in my front yard was blocking my view of a dead deer — the officer explained to the neighbors that they’d gotten “a number of calls” about a pregnant deer, in distress, trying to give birth, but apparently without success and was “suffering.”

Anyway, the deer was shot – bam, bam, bam! In the head.

The officer put a brown paper bag over the deer’s head. Sat in his vehicle for a spell….then drove off.

Animal “rescue” service showed up and carted the deer away.

I talked to BPD lieutenant this morning. I wanted an explanation of police procedure/protocols for this kind of response.

    He was pleasant and professional.

However, I wonder if there’s a better way to handle this type of situation.

    Sigh.

LONDON — Explosions disabled two tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, forced their crews to evacuate and left one vessel ablaze, a month after four tankers were damaged in the same area. The United States said the ships were attacked and blamed Iran, escalating tensions in a vital passageway for much of the world’s petroleum.
Hours after the two vessels were struck, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in Washington that intelligence reviewed by American officials showed that Iran was responsible. Mr. Pompeo did not present any evidence of Iran’s involvement.
The morning incidents, which two shipping companies involved and the White House had earlier described as attacks, roiled a region already unsettled by the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States and some of its allies

Sarah Huckabee Sanders will leave the White House at the end of the month.

Can Trump find a replacement who is so adept at misrepresenting the truth?

    Probably. 😦

Social Security benefits are protected ONLY if the cap on income is lifted!

There aren’t enough workers, making enough money, paying into the program to adequately sustain the program long-term. Period.

Social Security Works is MISLEADING — they claim it’s ALL okay in one breath, then in the next say…well , of course, ONLY if needed changes are made!

Apparently, MANY people who have sufficient savings, stocks, pensions — and don’t rely on SS for their retirement years — are very cavalier about the solvency of the trust funds to continue to pay full benefits for future retirees. Shame on them!
