Mercurial Sunday

THE SCALE OF MERCURY: What will tomorrow’s transit of Mercury look like? Marek Nikodem has the answer. He watched the previous transit of Mercury (May 9, 2016) from Kcynia, Poland, and photographed the event at sunset:

Mercury is the black dot near the bottom of the sun. It’s pretty tiny. Mercury is only 1/194th of the sun’s apparent diameter. That’s why looking at the sun through ordinary eclipse glasses won’t work. You need magnification–50x or more is recommended.

I was watching some news show the other day and someone mentioned; what if the president elect wasn’t a dunderhead? What if he/she was a conniving, clever, way too smart person that could shift things to a specific advantage using mental slight of hand, cleverly disguising his/her motives?

Something to think about for the future, tax returns, background checks, political history, etc. should be required for all candidates. Keep the dunderheads and sinister individuals out!

I’ve said something like that since the advent of Trump. Good thing he’s a dunderhead head, undisciplined and unable to learn. What if an intelligent Trump shows up down the road?

Saw this comment at Maureen Dowd’s column on Bloomberg’s possible run:

    1. Mike says he is running for President because he loves this country and thinks Trump is steering America towards an iceberg.

    2. Mike releases tax forms and challenges Trump to do the same.

    3. Mike names Pete to be his Vice-Presidential running mate.

    4. Mike says that he will only serve one term because at the end of that term the ship of state will be headed in a safe direction, and he will be too old (81) to serve a second term.

    5. Mike says that during his 4-year term, Pete will develop the seasoning necessary to keep the ship on a positive course.

    6. Mike for President 2020

    7. Pete for president 2024

    8. Pete for President 2028

    9. By then, Trump will have served served 12 years prison for tax evasion.

People’s Outfitting Company, I remember that name from my life in the suburbs of Detroit, but I’m sure we never went there. I can’t even picture it.

It was fun to look thru your links though. I’m always nostalgic for my Detroit days.

Well, LEONARD PITTS begins his column today with a stark observation:

With last week’s balloting behind us, we now have just less than a year before one of the most momentous elections in American history. As voters in 1860 had to decide between Union and secession, we face a stark choice of our own: America or Trump. There is no middle ground. This is democracy at its Armageddon.

It’s frightening, and when I think about life here if President Poison wins I take comfort in how old I am. I won’t have to put up with his shit for as long as the younger will.

Moon illuminated the way during 17 minutes to the north door of the Hillside Cafe; slow. Not entirely deserted.
