Uber SUV for the Uber Rich.

I’m guessing that being rich is a comfortable feeling — no money worries, you’re set for life! But is it possible that being too rich can be too much, even discombobulating?

Imagine being Mark Zuckerberg, whose social media monopoly, Facebook, put another $27.3 billion in his pocket last year. Forget fundamental questions about whether he (or anyone) is worthy of such an excessive haul of the world’s wealth — how do you even spend it?

There are a growing number of SANE people who now believe the vast wealth chasm that has fractured our country is a good argument against gun control. What a country!

    I awakened this morning to 52º F — temp has slipped to 49º F now…still, that’s rather warm for January 23.

The Mount Baker highway is closed because of severe avalanche danger. Flooding in the county. Yesterday it rained buckets!

Snakes – the Chinese krait and the Chinese cobra – may be the original source of the newly discovered coronavirus that has triggered an outbreak of a deadly infectious respiratory illness in China this winter.

…. known as the Taiwanese krait or the Chinese krait, is a highly venomous species of elapid snake found in much of central and southern China and Southeast Asia….

The illness was first reported in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a major city in central China, and has been rapidly spreading. Since then, sick travelers from Wuhan have infected people in China and other countries, including the United States.

Using samples of the virus isolated from patients, scientists in China have determined the genetic code of the virus and used microscopes to photograph it. The pathogen responsible for this pandemic is a new coronavirus. It’s in the same family of viruses as the well-known severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which have killed hundreds of people in the past 17 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV.

From BBC News and The Guardian it is clear that all governments are acting to limit the spread of the virus.

From phys.org yesterday I learned that there are large and even gigantic viruses about which little is known.

From phys.org yesterday I learned that better coffee is made by using fewer coffee beans and grinding more coarsely. I grind enough for 2–3 cups, made serially as required. Indeed the article is right!

Pete and 3 of his train geek friends borrowed my RAV4 and are heading to Massachusetts to a train show. They’ll be home Sunday. I went to Meijer’s today for groceries so I won’t have to go anywhere, but if I do, I can use Pete’s car.

I’m still not watching the so-called trial, just the pundits talking during breaks and only if I remember to turn the TV on to check on what’s going on.
