    Another day, another statistic…

Whatcom County residents filing for unemployment benefits totaled 4,428 this week.

That’s a huge jump compared to last week, when only 238 people filed an initial claim.

    Surprisingly:

A bacterium which naturally evolved to live on polyurethane. Who woulda thunk it?

Today even fewer. By counting every pedestrian that I could see on campus, I arrived at 12 students and 3 faculty. There were only 3 busses, less than prior days.
Appears that work has stopped on the new fraternity house. It also appears that SEL is considering itself essential and so working away, judging by the cars in the engineering building parking lot.

    Day 6: 164+31=195 minutes.

You’re our man-on-the-street in Pullman. Since I’m stuck here, I have no reports. I sometimes think M-52, which I can see past the neighbor’s 2 acres, doesn’t have much traffic.

No one want to hear that! Once you’re over it, stay quarantined. Well, no big deal because at least you’d be over it.

Washington state has 13,969 hospital beds. At the current rate of increase in COVID-19 cases, all beds are filled in 21 days. But the estimate is that is just the apex of the infection. What is the average length of stay?

In New York there won’t be enough beds so vacant schools will have to be pressed into service. Looks to be the same here in Washington state…

Cuomo was once again good at his 11:30 update. Trump, the usual asshole.

A reporter asked him why he said what he said about the Michigan governor and the Washington State governor, and he was pressed on the question after he rattled on, trying to deflect. He finally looked right at the nagging reporter and said ti was because they weren’t nice to him. That’s not exactly what he said, but it’s exactly what he meant. Don’t worry, I gave him hell.

Trump derided Inslee as a “failed presidential candidate” who is “constantly chirping.” He told reporters Whitmer “has no idea what’s going on” and asserted his administration has “taken such great care of Michigan.”

Asked what specifically governors could be doing to assuage his concerns, Trump said he expected gratitude for what’s been done so far.

“I want them to be appreciative. I don’t want them to say things that aren’t true,” he said. “I want them to be appreciative. We’ve done a great job. And I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about [Vice President] Mike Pence, the task force, I’m talking about FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers.”

The president said he’s told Pence not to call the governors of Washington and Michigan, suggesting the vice president is “wasting [his] time.”

“You know what I say? If they don’t treat you right, I don’t call,” Trump added.

Roger Norrington with the London Classical Players, who use period instruments, performed the best recording ever of Beethoven’s underappreciated 2nd symphony.

    Magnificent!

Dr. Ming Lin, a veteran ER doc at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital in B’ham was terminated because he spoke out publicly about the lack of training, preparedness, PPE (personal protective equipment), non separating Covid positives from non-tested, etc. While he isn’t technically a PeaceHealth empoyee, because PH contracts to an outfit called TeamWork, he has worked at St. Joe’s for over 17 years and has been a practicing physician for about 30 years. The end of this video is the “money shot” — when he mentions his kids.

Our illustrious POS POTUS was at it again last night:

I love Michigan, one of the reasons we are doing such a GREAT job for them during this horrible Pandemic. Yet your Governor, Gretchen “Half” Whitmer is way in over her ahead, she doesn’t have a clue. Likes blaming everyone for her own ineptitude! #MAGA
