“The science has been in for a long time, and keeping marijuana on Schedule I — with heroin and LSD — is ludicrous,” Cohen said in a statement Tuesday. “I am pleased to join with Congressman Don Young in introducing this important bill to bring the federal government in line with the science and the American people, respect states’ rights, remove the threat of federal prosecution in states with medical marijuana, and help our citizens access the treatments they need.”

Bill Piper, national affairs director for the Drug Policy Alliance, a reform group, told The Huffington Post that the House version of the bill was introduced because “momentum is so strong” for the bipartisan CARERS Act.

“This has become one of the few issues Democrats and Republicans can agree on,” Piper told HuffPost in an email. “The tide is quickly turning against marijuana prohibition, and the war on drugs in general; it’s only a question of when, not if, reform will happen.”

The bill calls for six major policy changes. Here’s what it aims to accomplish:

Allow patients, doctors and businesses to participate in their states’ medical marijuana programs without fear of being prosecuted by the federal government.

No one on this planet should ban consumption of something that grows from the Earth, it is our right to consume the fruits of the Earth as we choose, there is no argument against. Ex; Chewing Cocoa leaves, consuming heroin.

Producers of chemical concoctions meant to burn out your brain cells, ie; coke, crank, crack, EX, whatever, should be dragged by their toes to Hell.

Weed in the hands of a responsible adult individual is not a problem, in young teens it is.
      Qualification is necessary.

Another 25 minutes in the rain after lunch. Saw two of the mallards, further upriver than usual. Heard and saw two geese flying upriver. Anyway, a not-quite 1/3rd start on the week’s minimum stick walking.

Still cold here. Actually some rain, a first this season. It’s pretty much cold and dry otherwise. Windy tonight, too. I think it was about 45°, pretty warm compared to previous days.

Planning a small gathering here Sunday at 1:00 for Nicholas’ birthday. He had his main party, but this is his special grandma party. Since they’re coming over early along w/ Jill and her guy and his kids AND a family friend, I figured I better have some food besides the Strawberry Cake I plan on making. Decided on Ham Rolls, Shrimp and Sloppy Joes. That ought to be good enough.

I’ll be gone overnight starting around 3:30 p.m. Friday, but I’ll come home early Saturday and I should be able to get all 3 items whipped up. Sunday morning I’ll dust and vacuum and pretty up the place. Sounds like a solid plan.
