Warming Wednesday

1a

In just eight days in mid-February, nearly a third of the sea ice covering the Bering Sea off Alaska’s west coast disappeared. That kind of ice loss and the changing climate as the planet warms is affecting the lives of the people who live along the coast.

At a time when the sea ice should be growing toward its maximum extent for the year, it’s shrinking instead—the area of the Bering Sea covered by ice is now 60 percent below its average from 1981-2010.

“[Bering sea ice] is in a league by itself at this point,” said Richard Thoman, the climate science and services manager for the National Weather Service Alaska region. “And looking at the weather over the next week, this value isn’t going to go up significantly. It’s going to go down.”

Doc, back on a Seattle World’s Fair trip Hanford was tourist stop for us, much like the Grand Coulee Dam.

Den, all of the Hanford reservation undergoing decontamination is closed. That includes where those cars went.

But you should be much more concerned about the diesel exhaust you breathe while out biking.

Coming back downhill in the dark I discovered that the sidewalk wasn’t as cleared as allows that; 26 minutes.

      Day 4: 80+26=106 minutes.

Watched Trump in the White House with the troop of kids, parents and others, talking about school shootings. Hated to watch it but I had to because I wanted to see what the kids would say. I think they picked the kids based on who wouldn’t rock the boat.

Gratefully, when Trump asked how many in the room would be for arming teachers, only some raised their hands, others just sat there. Then he asked how many aren’t for arming teachers and hands went up.

One man whose daughter died 19 years ago in Columbine said he was going to leave a book for Trump. A book of stories of the kids, I guess. “HE’S NOT GOING TO READ YOUR BOOK,” I yelled.

Busy day, went to bank, birdseed store, Meijer’s unloaded it all at home then went to Stockbridge to my library. Home again I cooked my hand soap slivers. I made soap!!! Woo hoo! I HATE throwing away the small piece of soap when the bar goes down and I’ve been saving them for years now. Finally have the time to wrap up that particular project.

Tomorrow, I’ll try to get the new bars out of my glass pudding cups.

No rain today. Enjoyed the drive to Mason, seeing water everywhere. Lakes in the middle of cornfields. I took a back road home where my favorite creek is. There’s a small waterfall in it when the water is rushing. Couldn’t see it, water was deep and covering that area. I love that little creek. NIce, it’s woodsy there. I think it’s a drainage ditch, dug by farmers. I should google that one to see.
