Plagiarism Wednesday

1a

The Trump campaign says that the stakes were too high for something like this to happen, that no one would deliver a plagiarized speech “in front of 35 million people.” But my students often say to me, “this paper’s worth 50% of my grade – I would never have plagiarized.” That makes the plagiarism even more mind-boggling, but it doesn’t make it not plagiarism.

And the kicker: it’s Clinton’s fault. Apparently, this is what happens “when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton”. I’m wary of scapegoating – I see it all the time when I call out plagiarism. “You’re doing this because you don’t like me,” students sometimes say. But I’m not the one who plagiarized. I’m the one whose job it is to assess students’ work, to hold them accountable not just for substance and style, but for ethical behavior.

In this case, we – all of us who care about the future of the United States and who care about truth – are the assessors. It doesn’t matter that Melania Trump or the campaign speechwriter isn’t enrolled in class, trying to get a good grade. Plagiarism is an even more serious offense outside of the classroom, when people are trying to sell themselves and their values – especially their honesty and integrity – to those who would take their lead.

The sheeple have spoken, fascism has joined the pugger party platform while the sheeple gobbled it up. Nothing of substance was discussed only the Frumpies family waving flags declaring ‘the donald’ the best father money can buy.

Real issues? nada, nope, zip, zilch, zero.

Once again the sheeple vote against their own best interests, believing what was said.

    Duh!

Careening headlong into darkness once again, too stupid to be afraid or even reason the outcome if mishandled badly by the electorate.

Ole Hill clinging by a thread as the perfect electoral storm begins, doomed.

It is really difficult to say anything positive about this election, we have fallen so far.

We the people of this United States have been hoodwinked by big money interests, police shooting suspects, snipers shooting police, kids shooting kids, endless wars of profit, money manipulators with obscene amounts of money, while the remaining 98% are supposed to just suck it up and pay the bills.

This is it folks, this is the bottom of the barrel for us, we sank to the bottom.

The frog in the frypan is well done in case no one noticed.

I agree with you, Den. The Trump thing is frightening. Finding out how many people in our country can fall for Trump, absolutely incredible and scary as hell. He gets a lot of publicity, pictures of people cheering for him, but really…I can’t believe more than half of the voters in this country went over to the Dark Side. If so, well…then for SURE we’re doomed.

But like with water finding it’s own level, the poured water sloshed to the right, then to the left, then to the right, then it settled. I hope I’m right and the majority of folks in this country are fed up…no one is giving them air time. Hope I’m right.

TVD return in 44 minutes. Hawk doing lazy 8s in a thermal. A few small birds. Larry flew off his perch when I came by. Two male Western Tanagers winging it hard. Joshi started up her bagpipe just as I was arriving home. Clear, warm day.

    Day 4: 161+44=205 minutes.

It’s been 90° here, hot and humid. Using the A/C, at least from noonish on. I dunked myself in the pool tonight at the end of my walk. First time in the pool. Water was around 84°. Only stayed long enough to cool down and I was out. It was WONDERFUL! The perfect summer night.
