!!DANGER!! !!TOXIC TO ALL LIFEFORMS!! !!ENTRY WILL RESULT IN DEATH!!

It’s been quite some time since Americans—and citizens of other nations—had to worry about nuclear war during their daily lives. But it has taken just a few tweets and a couple of utterances from President Donald Trump to remind people that the planet can be turned into ashes by the act of one man. So perhaps Trump should be thanked for providing a sort of real-time public service announcement.

Yet Trump himself has no need for such a reminder. For decades, nuclear weapons—and the prospect of nuclear annihilation—have weighed upon his mind, as I pointed out several months ago. Unfortunately, the contradictory thoughts he has expressed on the subject—most notably that he would make a great nuclear arms negotiator and that nuclear war might indeed be inevitable—are not reassuring for anyone freaking out over the current Trump-generated tweet-crisis involving North Korea and its nuclear weapons program.

In a 1984 interview with the Washington Post, Trump, then merely a 38-year-old celebrity developer, shared his fantasies: He was hoping to build the “greatest hotel in the world” and construct the world’s “tallest” building in New York City—and one day become the United States’ chief negotiator with the Soviet Union for nuclear weapons. In between boasts of how rich and famous he was, Trump declared that he could negotiate a great nuclear arms deal with Moscow and said he wanted to head the US arms negotiating squad. “He says he has never acted on his nuclear concern,” the newspaper reported. “But he says that his good friend Roy Cohn, the flamboyant Republican lawyer, has told him this interview is a perfect time to start.”

Just 24 minutes at the end of some drizzle, which washed the haze from the air, to the Zoe Coffee & Kitchen. Being the Saturday that the dorms open for move in the place is over full so I had to wait for a few minutes for even a place at the bar counter. Somehow the owner was able to figure out how to pack more people in here, plus the new patio out in front, than the Shermers ever did when this was Tam’s Place.

And 35 minutes total to Sloan Hall, there to call CREDO Mobil about replacing my misfunctioning phone. For a lot of $$ this would be possible, so I am considering other alternatives. But not today.

In addition, there were 474 emails awaiting action on this PC. Most just garbage but some need reading. Indeed, another professional friend passed away last month. 😦

And then home for a running total of 50 minutes. I was planning to go around clockwise and up the College Hill Climb and Maple Street Extension but I wore too much clothing, having expected more drizzle. Nope. Instead warm overcast together with Micki’s leftover haze; I now plan on doing more stick walking after it cools a bit and of course I have shed two layers.

Out to the TVD bridge and return in 54 minutes; slow in the minor drizzle with thunder once or twice. When just starting, the local family of quail was in evidence with 5 young that I could see; a survival rate of 1 in 3 to 4. Later, spotted a hawk on the peak roof line of the abandoned grain elevator. That property is now posted with a fence across the parking lot. I suppose the final 2 pot stores intend to move in.

      That’s a daily total of 104 minutes.

      Day 7: 233+104=337 minutes.

David Corn…haven’t read anything by him in ages. Now, I see David is not reassured given Trump’s long history of “concern” for inevitability of nuclear use.

Why don’t we (our government) just reluctantly accept that North Korea is now in the nuclear club and calm things down?

Much nicer here today…cooler and a lot less smoke. Yay!

At least one carless young man has moved into the little house to the north that used to be occupied by the Mimn. New neighbors to the west seem much better mannered than the crowd last school year.
