COSMIC RAYS ARE INTENSIFYING: Cosmic rays have been intensifying for more than 4 years. On Dec. 5th and 6th they surged within a percentage point of the Space Age record, according to data from neutron counters at the University of Oulu’s Cosmic Ray Station in Finland:
The reason for this increase is Solar Minimum–underway now. During Solar Minimum, the sun’s magnetic field weakens, allowing more energetic particles from deep space to penetrate the solar system. The current Solar Minimum is one of the deepest (perhaps the deepest) of the past century. Increases in cosmic rays are to be expected. The only question is, how high will they go? You can monitor daily neutron counts right here on Spaceweather.com.
To find out if the cosmic ray surge is being felt at mid latitudes, yesterday Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched a cosmic ray balloon to the stratosphere over central California:
Above: You’re never too young to start measuring cosmic rays
We’ve been launching these balloons almost weekly since 2015 to monitor atmospheric radiation over California. This payload landed in a remote Nevada desert more than 50 miles from the launch site. A recovery team is en route to retrieve the payload and its sensors now. Stay tuned for data!

Micki, I’m happy you saw that movie, too! I saw the preview for it on another movie I watched, and I write down previews that look good. That’s how I stumbled on it.
Did you see the drama with Glen Close and Jonathan Pryce, “The Wife?” The husband won a Nobel for a book he wrote. That was a good one, too.

I did see “The Wife” — Glen Close’s character made me sick. Years of anticipating her attention-seeking husband’s every need; putting up with a lot of crap, because (IMO) she loved the status of it all, the trappings, the parties, the guests with the “brilliant minds.”
I’d give the movie an solid A for production and building tension. But, she made me want to vomit — and her eventual “coming into her own” with a vengeance (revenge??) didn’t make me like her one bit.
Good flick though! .

Brian is home so Jill and Brian dragged me along and we went out to eat at Maru, the sushi place. Expensive, but so yummy. I love their Firefly Shrimp, and especially love the drink called Love Potion. Mmm.
Now I”m going to work here when I’d rather watch a movie, but once I watch a movie it’s REALLY hard to read on the computer. Better to use my eyes here now while they’re so-so, watch the movie later.

Maru means ship.

Well, not quite…
Maru …. 丸, means “circle” and is often added to ships sailing under the Japanese flag…Asama Maru, Awa Maru, Nippon Maru. Some say the “circle” (maru) ending on a ship’s name depicts a safe, roundtrip back to homeport.
Only non-warships use the Maru ending, such as merchant vessels.

Den, do you always drive to Fernley for groceries?

Nope, there is a Safeway here in town but if I need something at Lowes, I will swing by Raleys and get some groceries Safeway does not have. Or if I am driving from Reno I will stop.

No, and the doctor doesn’t either.

I’m going to guess that it is due to the frosting on the cake slice at the end of dinner.
